UNDER OVERFLADEN
Ved hjælp af det mytiske og mystiske hav, hvor en verden eksisterer under overfladen, inviterer Amoros os til at filosofere over selve livet. Alt bliver til i kraft af fantasien, og det bliver filosofiens fornemmeste opgave at skabe en tiltro til fantasien. Blæksprutten symboliserer uhyggelige, opslugende, skjulende fænomener i havets og det ubevidstes dyb: Et fiktivt element, som understøtter, at der ikke er tale om en metode for eksistentiel udvikling: Den enkelte må selv skabe vejen igennem livet. Med denne invitation til at se under overfladen prøver Amoros at give os modet til at tage livet tilbage.
OM KUNSTEREN
Jean Amoros bor og arbejder i Alba la Romaine, Ardèche, Frankrig, hvor han underviser i kunst. Amoros’ særlige teknik, hvor blæksprutten spiller en central rolle, er med til tidligt at vække en eftertænksomhed hos beskueren. Amoros fortæller: ”Jeg køber ind hos fiskehandleren, for jeg har brug for meget friske eksemplarer, så jeg kan bruge deres blæk. (Jeg har aldrig fundet blæksprutter i Escoutayfloden i mit nabolag!) Jeg lægger dem på tykt papir, hvor de er smurt ind i blæk. Her ligger de i timevis, mens jeg arbejder rundt om dem med litografiblæk og akrylmaling. Nogle gange fugter jeg dem lidt, og arbejder rundt om dem, så fjerner jeg dem og aftrykket kommer frem, som jeg så arbejder videre rundt om. Det kan tage timer eller dage med mange forskellige forsøg. Så jeg har et atelier, der lugter godt af hav!”.

BELOW THE SURFACE
With the help of the mythical and mysterious ocean – where a world exists below the surface – Amoros invites us to philosophise about life itself, which might be realized in many ways. Everything comes to life through the power imagination, whereby the most important task of philosophy is to build trust in imagination. The octopus symbolises scary, gleaming, and concealing phenomena in the depths of the sea and in the unconscious: A fictional element that supports the fact that it is not a method of existential development.
With this invitation to look below the surface, Amoros tries to give us the courage to take back life.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Amoros’ unique technique – where the octopus plays a central role – will urge a thoughtfulness in the mind of the viewer from an early stage. Amaros states: “I go to the fishmonger since I need very fresh specimens to use their ink. (I have never found octopuses in the Escoutay river in my neighbourhood). I place them on thick paper where they are covered in ink. They will stay here for hours while I work around them with lithography ink and acrylic paint. Sometimes, I will add moist to them and work around them. Then I remove them to let the imprint appear as I continue to work around them. It might take hours or days with several attempts. I then have a studio with a nice smell of sea!”
